Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Petersen has openly acknowledged the team's struggles with conceding goals in the 2024/25 Betway Premiership campaign, calling it a concern that the squad is working hard to address.
Speaking to the media at the Nedbank Cup launch in Sandton, Petersen expressed that while goalkeepers often take the brunt of the blame for goals conceded, the issue is one that the entire team must confront collectively.
The club's defensive woes have been evident in the early stages of the season, with official statistics showing a worrying trend.
Fiacre Ntwari, who has featured in seven matches across all competitions, has conceded 11 goals. Current number one Bruce Bvuma has shipped three goals in his four appearances, while Petersen himself has let in five goals in just three matches this term.

Petersen made it clear that the goalkeeping unit and the team as a whole are not shying away from the responsibility of improving the defensive record.
"That's the one part of goalkeeping that's maybe not that nice. It's that when you concede a goal, they only look at you. They don't care if the ball was lost up the field or not, they look at the goalkeeper," Petersen said, acknowledging the weight that often falls on goalkeeper's shoulders.
However, the 30-year-old shot-stopper was quick to emphasize the importance of teamwork in tackling the current crisis.
"But I think for us, it's to help the team, especially the defenders and the midfielders, to the best of our ability. It's also an opportunity for us to pull together, and tackle the problem head on. There's no shying away from it, we've been conceding goals. It's for us to pull together as a collective," he said.
