The story
The South African football fraternity has been plunged into mourning this week following the passing of Sinamandla "Sgora" Zondi, who tragically collapsed and died shortly before his team’s Motsepe Foundation Championship match against Milford on Tuesday evening.
Zondi was set to play in Durban City's home fixture at Chatsworth Stadium when he suddenly collapsed during the pre-match warm-up.
According to a statement shared by the PSL, medical personnel at the venue responded immediately and rushed the player to the nearest hospital.
As stated by the PSL, the player passed away at the hospital shortly before 8 p.m., which resulted in the suspension of City's derby with Millford.
From supporters to Betway Premiership clubs and players, there were plenty of heartfelt tributes reserved for Zondi.
The KZN Department of Sports, Arts & Culture's MEC Mntomuhle Khawula also expressed his sadness over Zondi's untimely passing.
