The story

Former Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs striker, Lehlohonolo "Major" Majoro, has teamed up with the league's title sponsor, Betway, to speak on the league trophy.

The 38-year-old has plied his trade for both Soweto giants, Highlands Park, Bidvest Wits, Cape Town City and AmaZulu, before he parted ways with Usuthu in 2023.

With Major featuring among the greats in the PSL all-time scorers' list with 70 top-flight goals to his name, his legacy in the league is as solid as his right foot.

As a solitary league winner with the Glamour Boys during the 2012/13 season, Majoro sat down with Betway to explain what the league trophy means to him.

Although the Nelson Makamo-designed Betway Premiership trophy is yet to be released after the collaboration was announced in November 2024, Majoro is excited for the direction Betway and the PSL are taking in this trophy design journey.

"The trophy means everything to me because it has this curiosity in it, and having gotten the opportunity to engage with the man behind the making of the new trophy, I’m even more excited," noted Majoro in a Betway clip shared on his Instagram.

As one of the Betway Squad ambassadors, Majoro joined fellow legends like former Orlando Pirates captains Oupa Manyisa and Lucky Lekgwathi in visiting Makamo's studio.

Known for his bespoke artistry, Makamo's work is revered on the global stage and has partnered with Betway as the creative and cultural spearhead in a first-of-its-kind trophy design that's set to be unveiled towards the business end of the current season.

The Betway Premiership Trophy will be presented to the PSL as its Lifetime Trophy, signifying Betway’s long-term plans to commit to South African football for generations to come, as pointed out by a PSL press release in November.

"This is an important trophy, and as a football lover, I love the route that we're taking at Betway to incorporate everyone, and making everyone part and parcel of this wonderful and prestigious trophy," elaborated Major.
