The story
Despite his fame as the Springbok rugby captain and two-time Rugby World Cup winning captain, Siya Kolisi was left starstruck like any football fan would be when he met Liverpool captain Virgil Van Dijk earlier this year.
In a chat with SuperSport, Kolisi recalled the night him and Retshegofaditswe "Ox" Nche watched the Reds in their final UEFA Champions League league phase match in January.
Siya and Ox were at Anfield for Liverpool's game against Lille in the Champions League last week. Siya's passion for Liverpool is well-known, as he has frequently attended matches and interacted with former manager Jurgen Klopp.
After the match, Siya and Ox had the incredible opportunity to be on the pitch and meet Van Dijk. The two players posed for a photo with the Liverpool captain, and Siya was presented with a Liverpool shirt.
He also shared pictures and videos from the game day, including shots from the box seats where he and Ox were seated.
"It was nuts, Ox and I were living our best life. Virgil even took us to the tunnel so we could walk and touch the 'This Is Anfield' sign. Ox even jogged out onto the ground and I was like, 'relax bruh' he doesn't even look like a soccer player, he's too big," joked Siya.
"We onto the field but not the pitch itself, it was really nice. It was an amazing experience. It was cool to share, I always tell people that you don't want to do all of these things by yourself. If you can, take your mates with you. It was awesome to see how happy Ox was, but he wasn't happy that there wasn't enough cake at the stadium," he added.
