The story
Luis Suarez appeared to momentarily attempt a bite a player's hand, only to pull back upon realising the hand near his neck belonged to his teammate, Jordi Alba.
The bizarre moment, now going viral, took place during Inter Miami's Concacaf Champions Cup quarter-final second leg clash against LAFC.
In the 89th minute, tempers flared after a challenge by LAFC's Marlon Santos, sparking a heated scuffle between players from both sides.
Inter Miami went on to win the match 3-1, thanks to a brace from Lionel Messi, progressing to the semi-finals with a 3-2 aggregate victory.
A widely shared video on social media shows Suarez reacting instinctively as a hand touches his neck during the melee.
Mistaking it for that of an opponent, the Uruguayan striker appeared to lunge toward it before quickly realising it was Jordi Alba’s and pulling back.
According to Spanish outlet Marca, Olivier Giroud had grabbed Suarez's collar during the escalating chaos.
