Bidvest Wits Assistant Coach Speaks On Key Injured Trio

Bidvest Wits assistant coach, Paul Johnstone, has spoken on the absence of key players, Papy Faty, Sibusiso Vilakazi and Phakamani Mahlambi, following their heavy CAF Confederation Cup defeat to Azam.

The Clever Boys missed the influence of their regular attackers, and were crushed 3-0 by their Tanzanian opponents at Bidvest Stadium on Saturday.

Speaking to Soccer Laduma in edition 963, Johnstone is adamant that the attacking trio's injuries weren't sustained as a result of the Sturrock Park-based outfit's training schedule.

"We still have influential players missing like Papy Faty, Sibusiso Vilakazi and Phakamani Mahlambi.

"All their injuries are types that are beyond our control, because they were all contact injuries. They did not occur through training methods or anything like that, " he said.

Meanwhile, head coach, Gavin Hunt did not mince his words following the final whistle against Azam, as he explained that Wits have a near impossible task to face in the second-leg of their Confederation Cup at the Chamazi Stadium in Tanzania.

"There is absolutely no chance of us coming back now. We had three open chances and failed to convert, they had the same number of chances and converted all of them.

"That's the nature of football, you don't convert your chances; you don't win. If we couldn't score one here, how will we score four there?" said a disappointed Hunt.
