Relative to the Swiss tactician’s first two seasons in charge of the Club of the Century, the 2024/25 campaign has so far not gone according to plan for Marcel Koller.
The Red Devils are currently four points behind Egyptian Premier League table-toppers Pyramids FC, and following their performance against the league leaders this past weekend — which ended in a 1-1 draw — there have been intense calls for the 64-year-old to be dismissed before their titanic continental clash against Masandawana.
Earlier this month, it was already speculated that the record African champions were planning to replace the Zurich native at the end of the season. However, calls to expedite that process have grown louder. Despite this, it seems Koller will remain in the dugout for their semi-final encounter in the Champions League.
Journalist Amir Hisham, speaking on Al-Nahar TV as per El Balad, stated that the club’s executives met over the weekend to discuss the recent decline in performances. Following the meeting, president Mahmoud El Khatib reportedly reassured Koller that he would be at the helm to try and defend his African title against the South African outfit.
