The story
Mamelodi Sundowns extended their unbeaten run in the DStv Premiership to 50 games after a 1-0 victory over Royal AM at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium on Saturday evening.
The solitary goal of the encounter came curtesy of Peter Shalulile, who made the breakthrough five minutes from time when he powered a header past Royal AM keeper, Nyame to register his seventh goal of the season.
Rulani Mokwena's team remains on course to achieve the 71 points record, as they currently sit with 66 points with four matches left.
Thwihli Thwahla on the other hand find themselves in a precarious position, as their fourth consecutive loss leaves them just five points above the relegation zone in 14th place.Bafana ba Style entered the match following a goalless draw with Golden Arrows, preserving their undefeated streak for the season, and the Masandawana supporters were confident that their team would walk away with all three points.
"We are going to beat them 3-1. It's clear now that our job is done, we just want to give some other players a chance to start a game, because already we are the champions of the DStv Premiership," said a passionate fan before the match.
"This game is very important for us because Rulani Mokwena wants to make more progress. Now, the league is already finished, so we can even play for a point. What we like about Rulani is that he will give the young players an opportunity, I believe he should give Shalulile a chance, just to show that he's still capable — it's just that things get difficult from time-to-time," said another support prior to kick-off.
"The score today? 6-0. Sundowns is a big team, if you can't beat Sundowns join them. I trust Allende, Shalulile and Ribeiro. Shalulile can kill them all and come back alone," said a confident fan before Downs took to the pitch.
"Our game was lovely, at least we got the goal. You can see with Royal AM, they kept it tight at the back. But look at the substitutes, thanks to Rulani, this is our coach. Rulani we love, please take this team to the highest level. You've already won four leagues, but from now, please lift us your game. We are looking for that one, the second star," said an eccentric fan after the final whistle.
"The game was good, it was preparation for the next game. This we can call a first half, because our next game, we are playing them on their background. Hopefully we show them how the Yellow Nation celebrates, they'll be the third team to honour us, bow down to us for winning the league, this is the best!" said a positive fan after the match.
Here's what the rest of the Yellow Nation had to say before and after Sundowns' narrow win and who they rated as the player of the match:
