After two French doctors seemingly called for African people to be used as test subjects for a coronavirus vaccine, Ivory Coast legend Didier Drogba hit back with a scathing response on social media.

Drogba took to Twitter on Thursday to hit back at comments made by professors Jean-Paul Mira and Camille Locht on French television, who claimed that trial vaccines should be tested on people from Africa.
"It is inconceivable that we continue to accept this. Africa is not a laboratory," the former Chelsea striker said via his official account.

"I strongly denounce these serious, racist and contemptuous remarks!
"Help us save lives in Africa and stop the spread of this virus which is destabilising the whole world, instead of considering ourselves as guinea pigs.
"It's absurd! African leaders have a responsibility to protect people from these heinous plots."

As of Friday morning, there had been more than one million confirmed coronavirus cases around the world, with at least 50 000 recorded deaths.
