Amakhosi's Internationals: Star Scores Beauty, Others Unused
We've got plenty of previous winners, a handful of debutants and some of Africa's biggest nations taking part in the continent's biggest footballing event, and there's sure to be fireworks when things get underway on June 21.
Been There, Done That…
In total there are 10 previous AFCON winners taking part in this tournament… Egypt, with seven titles, are the most successful country in the competition's history, closely followed by Cameroon who picked up their fifth win in 2017.
Ghana have four titles, Nigeria have three, the Ivory Coast have won it twice (most recently in 2015), as have the DRC, and then we have Morocco, Algeria, South Africa and Tunisia who have gotten their hands on the trophy once since the tournament was formed in 1957.
The Newbies!
This year, largely due to the expansion of the tournament, three nations will get to take part for the first time as they make their AFCON debuts in Egypt. With the competitors up from 16 to 24 teams, a chance has opened up for some of the continent's smaller countries to make their mark.
Madagascar surprised everybody as they got off to a flyer in a qualifying group that included Senegal, Equatorial Guinea and Sudan, and before the end of October, they'd already secured their place as the first debutants for 2019.

They were followed by Mauritania in November as they went on to secure the second spot in Group I to qualify alongside Angola, knocking out both Burkina Faso and Botswana to make sure they get a taste of the action in Egypt.
Finally, on the last weekend of the qualifiers, Burundi held out against Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's Gabon to secure a 1-1 draw that was enough for them to progress alongside Mali to join in the AFCON fun for the first time.
