Heading into their first-leg UEFA Champions League quarter-final against the Gunners, there were already reported doubts about the Italian tactician’s future at the Santiago Bernabéu.
This was a consequence of their defeat to Valencia this past weekend in LaLiga, but it seems that his job security has been further jeopardised following Real’s joint-heaviest defeat in Europe’s premier club competition — at the Emirates Stadium.
According to Relevo, while there remains a possibility that Los Merengues could turn things around in Europe, and domestically — where they currently trail Barcelona by four points — should Ancelotti fail to win a single trophy, the club will sack him and attempt to appoint Xabi Alonso as his successor.
The Reggiolo native has been skating on thin ice all season, and the same report claims he came extremely close to losing his job in December but managed to stabilise things. However, with the possibility of missing out on the Champions League, LaLiga and the Copa del Rey edging ever closer, the chiefs at Valdebebas have reportedly become disillusioned with their manager and will almost certainly dismiss him.

It is understood that the issues on the pitch have been further compounded by the high-profile addition of Kylian Mbappe, with Ancelotti struggling to find the necessary balance in the team to accommodate his abundance of attacking talent.
