Last week, the Gunners shocked the world when they scored three goals against the record European champions without reply. Two Declan Rice free-kicks and a Mikel Merino strike sealed an emphatic victory for the Gunners, but they go into the second leg against a team synonymous with Europe’s premier club competition.
Only four clubs in Champions League history have managed to successfully overturn a three-goal deficit, and Los Merengues are not part of that illustrious group – but their president, Florentino Perez, has incentivised them to make history for the club.
According to Spanish outlet Sport, the Spanish executive entered the team’s dressing room after their narrow 1-0 win over Alaves to tell the players that, should they defeat the north Londoners and progress to the semi-finals, there is a huge cash bonus in store for them.
Mikel Arteta’s side are entering the encounter not in the greatest of form, having just drawn 1-1 against Brentford in the league. The English giants have only won two of their last seven matches in the Premier League but, while their form has been erratic, they have not been susceptible to conceding many goals.

The last time Arsenal conceded three goals in a match was against Luton Town in December 2023, so Real will have their work cut out if they are to turn the tie on its head.
