Exclusive: Riveiro Attracting Zamalek Interest

Egyptian giants Zamalek are interested in acquiring the services of Jose Riveiro once he leaves Orlando Pirates at the end of the season, the Siya crew has been informed.

The White Knights are planning to appoint a new head coach for the 2025/26 campaign, and one of the managers the club is considering is the Spaniard.

The Cairo-based institution recently suffered a shock elimination from the CAF Confederation Cup at the hands of competition debutants Stellenbosch FC in the quarter-final stages and are now assessing prospective successors to Jose Peseiro once the season concludes.

A source close to the North African giants informed Soccer Laduma that while the White Castle harbour no intentions of parting ways with their Portuguese tactician in the immediate future as they will be hiring in a new manager at the start of next season.

Still in the early stages of compiling a shortlist of potential candidates, the five-time CAF Champions League winners see the Buccaneers boss as a strong contender to succeed his fellow Iberian.

While both the Sea Robbers and Riveiro himself have confirmed that this will be his final season in charge of the Soweto giants, it remains unclear where his next destination will be — or whether he may take a brief sabbatical.

However, taking a break from football could prove to be a difficult decision, as Zamalek are known to offer their coaches around $85,000 (R1.6 million) per month, the same source told Soccer Laduma.

With Pirates still in contention to complete a treble — winning the MTN8, Nedbank Cup, and CAF Champions League — securing these titles could further raise Riveiro’s stock, potentially attracting even more high-profile interest in the Vigo native.
