Downs Clash To 'Determine' Ahly Coach's Future

Downs Clash To 'Determine' Ahly Coach's Future

The result of Al Ahly’s two legged CAF Champions League semi-final against Mamelodi Sundowns is reportedly set to determine the immediate future of Marcel Koller.

The Red Devils are perhaps not in the best form at the moment. The North African juggernauts recently took another step towards relinquishing their Egyptian Premier League title this past weekend when they drew 1-1 with table-toppers Pyramids FC.

The record African champions are now six points behind Krunoslav Jurcic’s charges, and the result was made even worse by the fact that two more players were added to their injury list, with both Yahia Attiyat Allah and Karim El Debes being forced off with injury.

It is understood that stakeholders of the 44-time Egyptian champions are not happy with the team’s performances and have consequently become disillusioned with their head coach, Marcel Koller. Up next for the Swiss tactician is a crucial Champions League last-four clash against Masandawana.

Such is the alleged displeasure with the 64-year-old’s performances that there were rumblings he could be removed before their encounter against Ka Bo Yellow, but the club have decided to keep him for the time being.

According to WinWin, however, the outcome of the match against Miguel Cardoso’s side will have a massive bearing on whether the Zurich native will continue until the FIFA Club World Cup. Should he fail to progress to the competition’s final, the same report states that his job in the Egyptian capital could be in jeopardy.
