While there were rumblings that the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner would retire from international football following his 2022 FIFA World Cup triumph, Messi has claimed that he would continue playing for the South Americans despite being 35 years old.
Now, Argentina's national team head coach has said that the Paris Saint-Germain star's international future is in his own hands, with the former Deportivo la Coruna right-back previously insisting that he wants the Rosario native to play at the next World Cup.
"Messi will continue to come until he says otherwise," he said at a press conference this week, as per Goal.
"I see him happy on the pitch and within the selection.
"Leo's looking good to me. He deserves all that love. He and all the players who are here deserve to go out and receive that love because they have not been able to live it."
