UEFA Europa League Report: Manchester United 4-0 Feyenoord 24 November 2016

Europa League Result: Manchester United 4-0 Feyenoord Date: 24 November 2016 Venue: Old Trafford Manchester United cruised to a 4-0 victory over Feyenoord in their Europa League Group A clash on Thursday night. The hosts were on the front foot in the early exchanges and put pressure on the Feyenoord goal in the 20th minute. Henrikh Mkhitaryan pounced on the ball from a corner kick, but his shot was blocked before Michael Carrick's attempt deflected before being kept out. At the other end of the pitch, Eljero Elia beat Phil Jones with ease and drilled the ball into the area where it found Rick Karsdorp whose shot was parried by Sergio Romero. The goalkeeper then did well to deny Dirk Kuyt on the rebound. The breakthrough arrived in the 35th minute when Wayne Rooney beat Karsdorp on the right before squaring for Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The striker played it back to his captain who chipped Brad Jones to net the opener. United had the lead at the break and came close to scoring their second in the 53rd minute. Juan Mata did great work to steal the ball back and attempt to chip Jones, who only just tipped it over the bar. The second goal arrived in the 69th minute as the Red Devils took control. Carrick tackled Tonny Vilhena just outside the Feyenoord box and Rooney picked up the ball before passing to Mata who prodded it home. The victory was sealed when United scored their third in the 75th minute. Marcus Rashford played Ibrahimovic into the box and the Swede played the ball into the danger zone where Jones' touch saw it go over his own goalline. In stoppage-time, Jesse Lingard capped off the win for the home side as he gained possession on the edge of the box before stroking it home off the post. The result saw United move into second position in the Group A standings with one game left before the knockout phase.
