Jose Peseiro was appointed as the head coach of the White Knights in February 2025. It was his first job since he left the Nigerian national team after the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations.
On the Super Eagles' journey to the final of that iteration of the tournament, the Portuguese tactician came up against South Africa in the semi-final.
Peseiro and his then charges needed a penalty shootout to defeat Bafana on that occasion, but ahead of his CAF Confederation Cup quarter-final with Stellies, he says that encounter in Bouaké taught him a lot about football in South Africa.
"The match against Stellenbosch will be tough. The opponent is organised on the pitch, has good players and a good coach, and they certainly want to win and continue competing. Football in South Africa has developed, and the stadiums here are very good," the Zamalek boss said, as per Kooora.
"Our goal is to win tomorrow and play a good match in order to take a step towards qualifying for the next round.
"When I (as Nigeria's coach) played against South Africa in the semi-finals of the last Africa Cup of Nations, it was a tough match. There were eight players from one team in their lineup, and there was organisation on the field.

"I haven't won any titles with Zamalek, but I want to win the Confederation Cup with the team so that Zamalek can win the title for two consecutive seasons. We will fight to achieve the best result in tomorrow's match."
