The story
Retired ex-Kaizer Chiefs striker Parker and former Orlando Pirates captain Jele, capped off 16 Days of Activism for Gender Based Violence (GBV) at the Champions for Change press workshop held in Durban on Tuesday.
The programme was spearheaded by non-profit organisation Father A Nation (FAN) in collaboration with Carling Black Label's #NoExcuse and mental health platform Cloud Therapist.
Members of the press went through the anti-GBV #ChampionsforChange course by FAN mentor Themba Ntuli and were handed their certificates by Jele and Parker, who serve as ambassadors for the cause.
The event was described as a strong end to 16 Days of Activism by FAN, who mentioned that it served as a prelude to a broader campaign that's set to be run in conjunction with the Premier Soccer League and its players.
"The programme will focus on becoming a champion on and off the field, highlighting the importance of mental health as a man and a player, using the privilege of fame and influence to be an excellent role model, and becoming a 365-day activist against GBV," wrote FAN in their IG post after the event.
