The story

From the Dutch-based Luke Le Roux to Mamelodi Sundowns' Teboho Mokoena, prominent SA ballers have been doing their bit to give back to their communities and hometowns.

The off-season period gives players the perfect time to not only unwind on luxe vacations, but to also inspire the game's future stars from areas that molded them.

Mokoena, through his foundation, hosted an under-16 high schools tournament in his native Bethlehem in the Free State, at the Bohlokong Stadium over the weekend.

He was supported by a number of his teammates, Mamelodi Sundowns and other brands such as Shoprite, SA Harvest, Red Bull, Food Lover's Market, SANTACO, and the Free State Province's education department.

Mokoena's club and international teammate, Mothobi Mvala also found a way to uplift youth football in the Free State by hosting a schools tournament of his own in Theunissen.

Mvala's teammates came through to support him at the Leboneng Primary School, where the defender hosted a tournament for both primary and high school learners.

The likes of Aubrey Modiba, Grant Kekana, Mokoena and Kaizer Chiefs' Pule Mmodi were present to hand out gifts at the tournament's prize-giving, with the Player of the Tournament receiving a Mokoena's Sundowns jersey.
