Chippa United and Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali received a hero's welcome back to his home town in Nigeria.
Nwabali produced a stellar showing at the recent Africa Cup of Nations tournament, prompting officials in his community to honour him.

Hometown support for Stanley Nwabali
Africa Cup of Nations breakout star Stanley Nwabali was welcomed by hundreds in his home town of Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni in Rivers State, Nigeria.
Nwabali was reportedly honored with a chieftaincy title, a Service Star of Rivers Star, and given 20 million Naira (R253 035) by Rivers State government officials.
The Chippa United shot-stopper enjoyed a stellar 2023 AFCON with the Super Eagles, certifying his spot as Nigeria's number one goalkeeper.
He only conceded four goals throughout the tournament, two of which came against hosts Côte d'Ivoire in Nigeria's 2-1 defeat in the final.
Stanley Nwabali has received $70,700, land, flat, chieftaincy tile, national and state honours after AFCON 2023.

His Instagram followers went from 27,000 to 700,000.

Hundreds of people greeted Nwabali on the streets of his home town and outside what appeared to be a local government office, as the Chippa star needed a security escort to get him through to his transport.
