Rulani Mokwena's leadership style

In a recent interview with the FIFA Training Centre's media team, Masandawana head coach Rulani Mokwena defined his style of leadership.

According to the world football governing body, the In the FIFA Training Centre caters to coaches of all levels and age-groups and aims to "explore a breadth of cutting-edge training sessions, analyses and related video content designed to enhance their impact on the game.'

The FIFA Training Centre visited Mokwena in Chloorkop where he got candid about how his leadership has developed and that the lessons he's learnt over the years have helped him tweak his approach.

"My leadership style is... How would I define it? I've moved a lot from an authoritarian type of style, to a more laissez-faire style. But also a style that gives me more possibilities in terms of providing leadership, but maybe from behind. With players trying to receive a lot of constant information," revealed the young Downs coach.

Mokwena mentioned that one of his strong attributes is that he's able question his beliefs in order to improve as a coach:

"There's lot's of talking with players, with the technical staff and it's [his leadership] changed over the years. I also think one of my abilities is how I look at life, not just football, but life. I'm always questioning. I'm extremely curious as a human being and I ask a lot of questions. I question myself about my beliefs and whether they are right or wrong, and I'm very flexible in adapting," added Rulani.
