The Brazil international was instrumental in the Hammers' UEFA Europa Conference League success after joining the club from Ligue 1 giants Olympique Lyon before last season.
The Manchester outfit were reportedly also reportedly interested in England international Declan Rice, but the midfielder opted to join league rivals Arsenal instead.
Following Rice's departure, West Ham are reluctant lose to another key midfielder especially as the London side are the only Premier League team yet to make a signing in this transfer window.
