Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has revealed Cristiano Ronaldo's anger at not playing regularly, and also responded to the suggestion that the ex-Real Madrid forward will leave the club in January.
Man Utd Make Big Decision On Cristiano Ronaldo
The Dutchman caused a stir last weekend when he admitted that he did not bring Ronaldo on in United's 6-3 defeat to Manchester City in the Premier League as a sign of respect for "his big career".
Just days later, it was claimed Ten Hag would be open to selling the five-time Ballon d'Or winner in January should a suitable offer arrive, with the Portugal international currently appearing to be out of his plans in England.
The former Ajax Amsterdam manager has now acknowledged that Ronaldo is far from happy when he is not in the side, but does not believe this past weekend's events mean the superstar will leave in the next window.
"He's pissed off when he's not playing," Ten Hag said, according to football journalist Laurie Whitwell.
"I can't see that relation that he is not coming on when we are 4-0 down, 5-1 down, 6-1 down.
"It was out of respect, nothing to do with the future or January.
"I don't see he is unhappy. He is happy, training well, everyone is."
Ronaldo has scored just one goal in eight appearances across all competitions so far this season.
