Wydad Fans Angry With Rulani's Post-Match Comments

Wydad Athletic Club's fans are angry with Rulani Mokwena's comments about the club needing more support from them.

After the Red Castle's latest 2-2 draw against FUS Rabat, their supporters were upset and threw objects at the team. In his post-match press conference, the former Mamelodi Sundowns boss pleaded with the club's faithful for more support, but it seems the Ultras have not taken too kindly to the South African's sentiment.

In a letter sent by the fans, as per Le360 Sport, they expressed their frustration over securing a CAF Champions League spot:

"In the twenty-fourth round of the 2024/25 championship, our club, Wydad Athletic Club, faced its opponent, Fath Union Athletic Club, on the grounds of Al-Arabi Al-Zawali Stadium, in a match that ended with two goals in each goal.

"After achieving a series of consecutive victories, we were hoping that the joy would last and that we would widen the gap from third place so that we could put one foot in the Champions League next season, but the exact opposite happened as the team achieved three draws, two of which were on the field.

"It now shares second place with another team and is only separated from fifth place by another stumble.

"We will not go into the details of the match, as it is enough that the coach and players are not aware that a draw on the field is a negative and disastrous result and is sufficient to justify the anger and resentment of the fans. But we will dedicate these lines to what we call in our language 'controlling matters' and setting the speed for every reckless driver.

"The modest results of Wydad last season and our desire to create an ideal atmosphere and provide working conditions for the team are all things that made the new arrivals believe that they are wearing the shirt of a small team with no ambition. They underestimate the team and its fans and imagine that we are the ones who are honoured by their presence with us, while the reality is completely the opposite.

"Players who are below the required level and whose performance is far from what is expected of them, and above all, they do not respect the loyal fans who stand behind the team in good times and bad, in the heat under the scorching sun and in the cold under the rainy sky.

"We will not exclude from our talk the coach who has received the fans' protection and support more than any other coach who has passed in recent years. Perhaps the best evidence of the fans' patience and support for the coach is their failure to demand his dismissal after the resounding four goals on the field, but rather their continued support and renewed confidence in him. But for our friend to become ungrateful and start criticising the fans, these are red lines that should not be crossed by anyone inside the club.

"We are the ones who established the concept of family within the club, and we are the ones who will ensure that we live according to its principles, the first of which is respect, which is our right and the duty of others towards us.

"Although Wydad derives its strength from the fans, and although everyone attests that the passionate Wydad fans have a great deal of credit for the titles achieved, the loyalists' emotions, anger, and keenness to correct the course and prevent the train from deviating from its track are all an integral part of the supporters' mentality.

"If 'courage and excess self-esteem' are absent from us one day, then know that the flame of our passion will have undoubtedly been extinguished.

"The team president, who was blamed for not defending Wydad's interests from external targeting, is now required to arrange his affairs internally and be the first to impose the respect of the public, whether on the coach, the captain or any of the players."

"We have shown a lot of patience and sobriety throughout the season despite the poor results and performance on more than one occasion, but we repeat it so that it is entrenched in everyone's ears and minds: the public is a red line, and anyone who crosses the red lines must bear full responsibility."
