Bidvest Wits' Steven 'Schillo' Pienaar is one of the highest earning players in the Premier Soccer League despite taking a multi-million wage drop compared to his earnings last season.
The former Bafana Bafana captain's contract with English side, Sunderland came to an end on June 30, this year, with reports revealing at the time that the 35-year-old was cashing in on around £80 000 a month. With the current exchange rate, that is equivalent to ±R1.4 million a month.

After an illustrious 16-year career in Europe, where he plied his trade for Ajax Amsterdam, Borussia Dortmund, Everton, Tottenham Hotspur and Sunderland, the former Premier League player will once again be turning out in his home country's top flight and Siya sources have revealed that Pienaar will be among Mzansi's top earners, cashing in on around R5 million per annum at the Students.
According to Siya sources, the player will be in an exclusive bracket which includes the likes of Itumeleng Khune, Siyanda Xulu, Sibusiso Vilakazi and Dean Furman.

Despite Pienaar's salary being significantly lower than his earnings last season, indications are that the player's main objective is to relish the opportunity to play football in his home country once again.
