PSL Fixture Moved For Election Day

PSL Fixture Moved For Election Day

The Premier Soccer League has confirmed that a full block of Absa Premiership fixtures that had been scheduled for May 8 will be moved.

President Cyril Ramaphosa announced recently that South Africa will go to the polls for the national elections on that date, and the PSL has had to find an alternative for the games that will be crucial in deciding who will be crowned champions as well as the club that will be relegated.

"The PSL executive committee deliberated on this matter. Considering the circumstances, and despite the fixture congestion the PSL is faced with, the League has no option but to reschedule the Absa Premiership matches to be played on that day (Wednesday, May 8)," today's statement read.

It has been decided that the full block of fixtures will now be played on Saturday, May 4 and will kick off at the same time as is the norm with games scheduled on the penultimate weekend of the season.

The league said it was also aware of another potential challenge should a team from SA progress to the semi-final of the CAF Champions League. That stage of the competition has also been scheduled for May 4.
