Owen Da Gama On Linesman Error In Absa Premiership Clash Against Orlando Pirates

Owen Da Gama On Linesman Error In Absa Premiership Clash Against Orlando Pirates

While Owen da Gama openly admitted his feelings towards the match officials last night, but he also revealed that one of the linesman even admitted to making a mistake.

Highlands Park were hard done by the assistant referee in last night's Absa Premiership encounter against Orlando Pirates, after Tshegofatso Mabasa scored the only goal of the game after being three metres offside.

"First and foremost, three metres offside, they showed it there, the whole world saw it; it is the very same linesman," Da Gama said after the game.

However, despite the biggest talking point being the offside goal, the Highlands head coach revealed that he confronted the same assistant referee about another error he made in the first half.

"In the first half, Pirates had the ball and he blows for offside and he raises the flag, when I confronted him at half-time he said it was a mistake?

"Let's not take anything away from Pirates, congratulations to them they played well.

"But that linesman on the far end, I think he should go to jail, you can't do that. People's lives are at stake, players are working for their families, and you work hard all week for somebody to do something like that.

"If it is a 50/50 you can understand, but three metres? Come on that is shameful for football in our country. I take nothing away from Orlando Pirates…" he added.

With the South African Football Association's review committee having recently confirmed that Kaizer Chiefs' goal was not offside after the football fraternity was sent into a frenzy, it remains to be seen whether anything will be said about last night's incident.
