The left-back will see his existing contract with Sundowns come to an end in June, although the league title contenders do have the option in place to extend his stay by another year.
Mashaba joined the Brazilians from Bidvest Wits three years ago and has been a key player for the team ever since. In their 2013/14 league winning campaign, the defender played in 17 fixtures amounting to 1287 minutes on the pitch.
While Downs are keeping tabs on Bafana Bafana and Mpumalanga Black Aces' left-back, Lehlohonolo Nonyane, they currently have two regular left backs in Tebogo Langerman and Mashaba.
"For Muzi, it is much easier, mainly, because the team needs at least three left backs to compete against each other and they have only two. Since they haven't signed anyone, they need to keep him and that is why they will exercise the option," explained a source.
