Former Orlando Pirates defender Ruben Cloete has warned South Africa against exposing themselves to the deadly Coronavirus unnecessarily.
Mzansi has entered into the 11th day of the 21-day nationwide lockdown as the government and various authorities work on the ways to defeat the rapid spread of the outbreak.
Cloete has compared the current state of events in the country to when he retired from professional football in 2016, following a stint with Chippa United.
Cloete, 37, has reiterated the importance of adhering to the rules in the fight against the COVID-19.
"I remember when I retired from active professional football in 2016, in some weird way I felt it was a lockdown period for me but I enjoyed free movement. This time around it's a lockdown with a different mission, it is to keep us safe and alive South Africa!" Cloete wrote on his official Facebook account.
"Let's stay focused and disciplined. Let's take it in our stride because with discipline we will crack the whip on this Coronavirus but if some of us continue to proceed as if life is normal, we open ourselves up for a tragic hiding by this virus. Let's see each other when the President announces free movement. It will happen but if we misbehave then a longer lockdown period is a possibility and we will see more victims. Let's stay safe in house with loved ones. Peace!" added the ex-left-back.
Santos, Free State Stars, Maritzburg United and Bloemfontein Celtic are among the other clubs that Cloete played for during his professional career.
