After a cagey start, the game sprung into life after 15 minutes as Stars winger Yusuf Jappie saw his curling free-kick brilliantly tipped away by Polokwane goalkeeper George Chigova.

Rise and Shine had an opportunity of their own in the 30th minute, but defender Nicholas  Motloung was unable to steer his header on target at the far post.

Stars were the dominant side throughout the first half, but they were restricted to efforts from distance, with Subisiso Masina going closest with a left-footed effort that was palmed away by Chigova.

The one time Stars looked to have beaten Chigova, they were denied by the frame of the goal as Rooi Mahamutsa rattled the upright at the far post with a thumping strike before the break.

Despite all of the home side's dominance, it was Polokwane who broke the deadlock after the hour mark as Mohammed Anas calmly slotted into the bottom corner from 12-yards out for his third goal in two games.

Stars should have been level on 72 minutes when Jappie's superb cross found Sibusiso Hlubi, who somehow nodded wide of the upright from six-yards out.

Nevertheless, parity was eventually restored with eight minutes remaining in the game when Rodgers sent a fine header past Chigova after the Stars defence was caught napping.

The hosts pushed for a winner in the closing stages, but Chigova had other ideas after pulling off a couple crucial saves to ensure the spoils were shared on the night.
