English Premier League Report: Chelsea v Leicester City 18 August 2019

English Premier League

Result: Chelsea 1-1 Leicester City

Date: 18 August 2019

Venue: Stamford Bridge

Frank Lampard's wait for a first win as Chelsea manager goes on as the Blues drew 1-1 with Leicester City at Stamford Bridge on Sunday evening.

The Blues were boosted by the return of N'Golo Kante and Olivier Giroud in the line-up, while Christian Pulisic also earned a start. On the other hand, Christian Fuchs was the only change for the Foxes from their goalless draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers, in place of the injured Ben Chilwell.   Following a fast start by the hosts, they eventually found an early goal in the seventh minute after Mason Mount put pressure on Wilfred Ndidi to win the ball before firing a low shot past goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel from the edge of the box.   Mount almost grabbed his brace in the 20th minute after Cesar Azpilicueta delivered a good cross from the right channel, but his header was smothered by Schmeichel, before Kante was denied by a superb block by Fuchs in the six-yard box.   The Foxes were showed a sense of urgency to get back to the game before the break, surging forward at every opportunity but Frank Lampard's men were resilient at the back and went to the break leading.   Leicester started the second stanza on the front foot as  they nearly restored parity three minutes before the hour-mark, with James Maddison's left-footed strike from the left-side of the six-yard that missing the far corner by inches   The visitors finally levelled matters in the 67th minute courtesy of a free header by Ndidi, who redeemed himself, following a corner by Maddison.   Maddison should have given Brendon Rodgers's army a 2-1 lead in the 72nd minute after he stumbled on loose ball clear inside the box, but he blasted his strike over the bar.   Youri Tielemans almost snatched the clinching goal for the Foxes with two minutes remaining, after receiving a cut-back from Marc Albrighton but his cracking shot was punched away by shot-stopper Kep as the encounter ended 1-1.
