The speculation is flying. There are always great things in life we would love to picture together but may not necessarily work. For instance, what would Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi be like on the same team? We know they are great independently, but what would they be like together? Can the same be said of Gavin Hunt and Kaizer Chiefs?
The speculation comes out of two things: first, Chiefs want the best coach in the land (and don't necessarily believe they have him right now), and many recognise Gavin Hunt as the best tactician out there.
The curiosity comes from the fact that we have never seen Mr Hunt coach a "big" team, but he has won the league with a smaller team – three times in a row, in fact. Many supporters feel, however, that it is not a case of whether they would work together or not, but rather whether Hunt would take the job at all, judging by comments on the website.
"Gavin Hunt would never accept a post as head coach at either Pirates or Chiefs, and even Bafana Bafana for that matter. He has his own way of doing things and is allergic to interference." – TBS
"I will run naked on the streets of Joburg and even climb on top of Carlton Centre if Hunt can coach Chiefs. The reason why he won't is that Bobby is a boss at his family business and likes to interfere too much with every coach at the team." – Iminald Khosified
"Hunt and Bobby would never get along… Their relationship would be like the frog and the snake." – Pythagorous-ABC
"Hunt doesn't take jobs where immediate results are expected, he believes in running projects. I believe he would have accepted this vision 2022 project as it would allow him to do what he does best (build teams and make them stronger)." – Hlangalicious
Hunt is certainly a no-nonsense coach. He apparently left Moroka Swallows because he couldn't stand the politics there. He thrived at SuperSport United and is thriving at Bidvest Wits because he has full control of all structures (including development) and signings.
Clubs would be the wiser entity to listen to his advice and let him take control. He is a coach who has proved he can deliver… but only if it happens his way, though.
Do you think Hunt is one of the few men who would actually turn down a job at Naturena, Parktown, or Chloorkop? Will he ever leave Wits?
