It has already been announced that FIFA 21 will be free on next generation consoles for players who purchase the game for Xbox One or PlayStation 4, and EA SPORTS have now explained how this will work.
Both the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 are set to launch later this year, and that means a few games launching around that time are going to be available on both consoles.
EA SPORTS have already revealed that they are working on FIFA 21 for next-gen, saying that the power of the new consoles will offer new innovations in the annual sports title.
In their own words, these changes include "blazing fast load times, deferred lighting and rendering, enhanced animation technology, off-ball humanisation, and more." They also state that this new tech "will take The World's Game from visual to visceral, enabling you to Feel Next Level every time you step onto the pitch."
However, in terms of your free upgrade, EA SPORTS have explained the Dual Entitlement system on FIFA 21's official website, saying, "Once you have your PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X, Dual Entitlement enables you to upgrade your copy of FIFA 21 on PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5, or from Xbox One to Xbox Series X, at no extra cost. Discless consoles require a digital entitlement to upgrade.
"The physical copy of FIFA 21 on PlayStation 4 also includes your entitlement to download and play the PlayStation 5 version of the game (and Xbox One with Xbox Series X), so you'll still be able to upgrade via Dual Entitlement if you purchase a next generation console with a disc drive.
"If you intend to buy a discless next generation console, you will need to purchase FIFA 21 digitally to take advantage of the Dual Entitlement offer as physical discs cannot currently be used to upgrade to discless consoles."
Dual Entitlement is not available for cross console use, "The Dual Entitlement upgrade is only available when you upgrade from PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5, or Xbox One to Xbox Series X."
