Fantasy EPL Winner Disqualified After Racist Comments Toward Sterling

Fantasy EPL Winner Disqualified After Racist Comments Toward Sterling

The official Fantasy Premier League game, played by millions around the world, saw the overall winner disqualified after alleged racist comments.

Aleksandar Antonov secured the title in Gameweek 38+ with a score of 93 points, but the title was soon handed to Joshua Bull after the Premier League got wind of comments he made in a private Facebook chat.

Antonov had initially finished 18 points clear of Bull, but the statement announcing the winner of the FPL from the Premier League confirmed that the initial winner was removed.

"The team formerly occupying the No 1 position has been removed from FPL due to a breach of our terms," read the statement.

The Daily Mail claims that the decision was made due to comments that he made regarding Manchester City star Raheem Sterling, but Antonov has been quoted staying that the comments were out of context.

On his YouTube channel, Antanov released the following statement, "Somehow, and in some way, things that I said in a private Facebook messenger chat with five of my friends found its way to the EPL (English Premier League).

"In response the EPL decided to exercise their right and remove me as the winner and to annul my points for the season.

"To clarify, what we write in our chats is football banter. And for sure it's not something different generally from football banter chats...

"The reason for my disqualification is a moment of frustration with a player put into words, written between friends - it was never meant to offend any footballer on any basis.

"I was disqualified from the season because something was taken out of context to a large extent, from a small Bulgarian private chat by a person that certainly doesn't wish me well in life and made me look like something I'm not to the EPL."

He followed up the statement on his Twitter account, @TooGoodFPL, suggesting that the person who reported him was a "sore loser" and started off saying, "Can I just say quickly...I am not racist. OK, that's all I had to say, bye."

However, he later released a lengthier statement to detail the entire incident, where he admitted using the Bulgarian term for the 'N word', although he tried to explain that it did not have the same connotation as it does in English.

Antonov admitted that the comment was worthy of disqualification, and amidst a lot more explanation regarding his actions, he apologised for the inappropriate comments.

The Bulgarian's disqualification means that he will miss out on the whopping first-place prize, which includes a 7-day trip to the UK with VIP hospitality at two Premier League Games, all travel and accommodation included. A TAG Heuer watch, a gaming console with FIFA 20, a Nike manager jacket and an FPL goody bag.
