The cat is out of the bag at Chloorkop – midfielder Teboho Mokoena has so far refused to put pen to paper on a new contract.
Following successful negotiations to get goalkeeper Ronwen Williams to commit his future at the club until June 2028, it's been revealed that Mamelodi Sundowns had been engaged in talks with teammate Mokoena to do the same.
But so far, the two parties have not agreed terms, even though there's no pressure for Downs to get the discussions over the line because Mokoena remains under contract for two more years with options included.
Soccer Laduma has further investigated to get more behind the story, and it has emerged that the Bethlehem-born talisman is willing to see out his current contract if all parties involved cannot reach a viable deal.
As confirmed by his agent Glyn Binkin after Mokoena's standout display at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d'Ivoire, where Bafana Bafana clinched the bronze medal, the player has had interest from Europe as well as North Africa.
Indications are that Sundowns are not willing to sell Mokoena and as reported have decide to offer him a new contract instead.
With the 27-year-old still yet to accept, the Siya crew has been led to believe the player is not against taking the route of walking away a free agent, although this remains someway off the table as talks continue between Mokoena and his representatives.
