The Siya crew has reliably been informed that former Bidvest Wits attacker Gerald Phiri Junior has been thrown a lifeline by Moroka Swallows with an opportunity to train with the team, with the possibility of roping him into their squad, if he impresses.
Phiri has been clubless since parting ways with Al Hilal in July this year after sustaining a longterm injury. The former Platinum Stars man made his way back to South Africa to begin his club search.
Now, according to Siya sources, the player has been granted an opportunity to return to the topflight after the Dobsonville-based side invited the 30-year-old for an assessment, where coach Steve Komphela and his technical team will have a closer look at the player.
Phiri, having turned out for a number of clubs in the DStv Premiership, is known for his playmaking abilities and dead ball expertise.
According to a source, Swallows could hand the Malawi international a short-term deal if he is successful, where he will provide experience to their midfield. He is currently a free agent and should all go well, will be able to join the Swallows squad immediately.
