The Siya crew can reveal that SuperSport United are yet to enter into talks with coach Gavin Hunt over signing a new deal.
It may come as a surprise that Matsatsantsa have left it until this late to tie down one of the most decorated mentors in the Premier Soccer League and one of only four coaches to win the title four times.
Hunt returned to the Tshwane outfit in July 2022, putting pen to paper by agreeing terms to lead the side for two seasons. Now that the initial agreement is set to expire at the end of the current season, Soccer Laduma has it on good authority that SuperSport are yet to engage the coach on the future moving forward – and this could be a slight concern.
Matsatsantsa are hoping to finish in the Top 8 come end of May, although their poor form lately has cast doubt on whether Hunt will be able to improve on last season's third place finish in the DStv Premiership.
SuperSport have endured a busy schedule while juggling domestic and continental football having qualified for the CAF Confederation Cup, where they reached the group stages but finished bottom of that table.
As a result, Hunt has relied heavily on young players from the DStv Diski Challenge, while some of the senior figures have either been rested or injured – and this has clearly come at a cost if the log standings are anything to go by. It remains to be seen whether Hunt will be staying on, but it's expected a decision will only be taken after the final game of the campaign against Orlando Pirates.
