News coming out of Chloorkop is that Gaston Sirino has done a complete U-turn on his desire to leave Mamelodi Sundowns in favour of a move abroad, believed to be in the United Arab Emirates. Downs coach Rhulani Mokwena lifted the lid on the suspicious absence of the midfielder since the beginning of the season by revealing he was being courted by a third party and had handed in a transfer request.
The Brazilians have been waiting for an offer, which has, to date, not yet arrived and left Sirino isolated and training alone.
Last week, Soccer Laduma reported that coach Pitso Mosimane's Al-Wahda FC in the UAE Pro League were understood to be the club after the Uruguayan's services, but only as a free agent.
However, with Sundowns having taken up the two-year option on the 32-year-old's contract – meaning he is on their books until June 2025 – they expect a transfer fee if he is to leave before that date.
As things stand, there has been no offer nor any movement in that regard. The biggest news emerging from the Downs camp is that Sirino has now apologised to the coaching staff and hierarchy in an effort to get back into the team and resurrect his career this season.
But the trust has been broken, and it's likely that Sundowns will only make a decision about reintegrating him into the squad once the transfer window has been closed and it is known for sure Sirino cannot leave.
