The Siya crew reported recently that SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt had still yet to open talks over a new contract.
Now, news reaching our desk indicates that there are some developments from Matsatsantsa regarding the future of their head coach, whose two-year contract runs down on June 30 at the end of the season.
Hunt rejoined the club, where he was most successful, winning three league titles between 2008 to 2010 prior to leaving them for the now defunct Bidvest Wits, where he also clinched the championship in 2017.
Soccer Laduma has been led to believe that SuperSport will entertain discussions over a new deal should Hunt be able to keep the side in the Top 8.
It appears easier said than done with the Tshwane outfit in control of their own fate when it comes to finishing the campaign in that bracket. However, their poor form does leave some doubt.
SuperSport have managed just one win in 10 DStv Premiership matches and completely ruled them out of getting a CAF spot – and with Moroka Swallows and Orlando Pirates their final two fixtures, the Top 8 isn't a foregone conclusion.
Whether Hunt is aware of this mandate or not is unclear, although the coach would have taken the job knowing the expectations.
The four-time league winner led SuperSport to third place in his first season back, but their points tally so far means they will end the campaign much lower on the table.
