Bucs’ Makhaula Decision On Hold Amid Interest

Bucs’ Makhaula Decision On Hold Amid Interest

Orlando Pirates will be expected to decide on the future of Makhehleni Makhaula only at the end of the season, while indications are that the player's situation is being monitored by his former employers.

The defensive midfielder joined the side in January in a surprise move from AmaZulu FC, penning a one-and-a-half-year deal. So far this season, Makhaula, who will be turning 34 on Friday, has made three league appearances, all as a substitute and in the first three matches of the campaign.

According to sources, the Mohlakeng-born star's situation is being monitored by his former club in KZN, who are believed to be keen to lure him back should an opportunity arise.

The tough-tackling player was a standout performer for Usuthu in the two-and-a-half seasons he was with the club since joining from Highlands Park in 2020, and a reliable source has revealed that the Pablo Franco Martinled outfit would be keen on his services, should Bucs decide against renewing his contract when it expires in June next year.

"Makhaula's situation at Pirates is monitored by a few clubs, but AmaZulu is one team that would like to have him the most for next season. He did very well for the team, and they know what he can offer," a source told the Siya crew.

"If we can be honest, even at Pirates the boy hasn't failed. It's just that he hasn't got enough chance to prove himself due to other players getting opportunities ahead of him," the source concluded.
