Swallows are known as one of those familiar and most cherished migratory birds, and Premier Soccer League club Moroka Swallows are living up to their traditional trait.
Soccer Laduma has discovered that the famous Dube Birds are also on an ambitious mission to migrate from their Dobsonville lair to the Dr. Petrus Molemela Stadium that used to be home to the now-defunct Bloemfontein Celtic in Rocklands township.
It is, however, not clear at this stage why Swallows decided to migrate, but while the proverbial swallow is forced by bitterly cold conditions from the south as they simply cannot find food during winter, the Gauteng-based outfit might have also been forced by the promise of better gate returns in the City of Roses.
Since the demise of Celtic, who used to pack the Dr. Petrus Molemela Stadium to the rafters, the people of Mangaung have been starved of big-time football, which has forced Marumo Gallants to also adopt Mangaung as their new home.
However, the Siya crew has been made aware that while Swallows are hoping to share the venue with Gallants, who are campaigning in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, they might have to wait a little bit longer.
According to Siya sources, PSL COO Professor Ronnie Schloss must first travel down to Bloemfontein to inspect the venue and then satisfy himself that it meets the required standards to host Premier League football. Until then, Swallows will have to make do with their traditional Dobsonville, where the locals treat them more like visitors than permanent tenants.
