Chiefs Regular Set To Sign Three-Year Deal?

Chiefs Regular Set To Sign Three-Year Deal?

Kaizer Chiefs are believed to be set to reward one of their standout players with a new three-year contract, the Siya crew understands.

Mduduzi Shabalala's initial senior team deal, signed three seasons ago, approaches its expiration next June.

Insiders at Naturena have indicated that the club has offered Shabalala a contract extension that would keep him with the team until June 2028.

Siya sources added that Amakhosi are keen to secure their emerging talents from the development side, aligning with their commitment to uphold the club's vision.

"The club is making sure they keep almost all their valued youngsters because in the past they have lost some of them to rivals and that's why they have offered Mdu (Shabalala) another three-year contract. You remember he signed a three-year contract in June 2022 until June 2025? And the one the club has tabled now will take his stay at Naturena until at least June 2028. That's what the club is looking at," the Siya source stated.

A second insider noted that while the deal isn't finalised yet, there are no apparent obstacles to reaching an agreement.

"At the moment we can't say it's a done deal already. But he is a Kaizer Chiefs youth product and he loves to be at the club and that works well in the negotiations as both the club and player need each other. So it's looks positive that before the end of the current season Mdu (Shabalala) would have put pen to paper on a new three-year contract," the second insider stated.

The 20-year-old Shabalala has played consistently for Chiefs under new mentor Nasreddine Nabi this season, scoring three goals, while last season, he featured in a fair amount of games for coaches Molefi Ntseki and Cavin Johnson.

Efforts to reach Chiefs for comment have been unsuccessful at the time of publishing, and the player's agent, Mike Makaab, also did not respond by the time of publication.

With this potential contract extension, Amakhosi aim to solidify Shabalala's role as a key player in their future plans. His continued development is seen as crucial to the team's success, reflecting the club's long-term investment in nurturing homegrown talent.
