With coach Steve Komphela's resurgent Moroka Swallows side taking shape, the club has quietly roped in a new signing who recently joined the club.
According to Siya sources, the Dube Birds signed versatile Thabang Maponya, who became the latest player to join the Birds' nest, putting pen to paper on a two-year contract. Maponya has spent the better part of the last seven years abroad having moved in the 2016/17 season, and particularly in Spain, where he moved around quite a bit in the lower leagues of that country.
Grandson to the late retail mogul Richard Maponya, he has featured for clubs such as Caudal, Navalcarnero, Crevillente, Arandina, Naval and, more recently, Agoncillo. Maponya can play as a right back but can also do a job as a right winger.
The 28-year-old has already featured twice for Swallows, although there has been no official announcement from the club about his arrival. However, the Siya crew understands he will form part of the Dobsonville-based side's roster for the next two years.
