Decision At Sundown: The Coaching Continuum

This development comes as Manqoba Mngqithi's current contract was set to expire on June 30 of this year, sparking speculation about his future with the league champions.

Siya sources close to the negotiations have indicated that both parties are satisfied with the terms of the new deal, discussing a strong mutual desire to maintain their successful partnership.

"The three-year agreement between the coach and the club is imminent. We can say it's as good as done at the moment. You see there were talks before the Nedbank Cup semifinal game against Stellenbosch FC and also after that and things were sorted out. I can say it's almost 90% or above at the moment," said the Siya source.

"The coach will stay at the club until June 30, 2027 for now. There was no doubt about that but there were other loose ends which had to be tied and they are almost done now. The coach is happy and the club is happy so what can stop them? Nothing, I guess," the source added.

The decision to extend Mngqithi's tenure underscores the club's recognition of his invaluable contribution to the team's dynamics and success. His tactical acumen, deep understanding of the game, and ability to inspire the team have been pivotal to Sundowns' achievements, according to a second Siya source.

"His experience and knowledge of the game is unmatched and he helps a lot in team talks both before the game and at half time. He also assists mostly in analyzing opposition and during substitutions and they won't let such a great asset go just like that. So, yes it's a three-year contract and all the involved parties are happy. I think soon the club will make the announcement to put all this (rumours) to bed," the second source told Soccer Laduma.

Mngqithi's anticipated contract renewal is a testament to his significant role at Sundowns, where he has been instrumental in maintaining the club's status as a powerhouse in South African football. With his guidance, Sundowns have continued to dominate the domestic league and make impressive strides on the continental stage.

As the club and Mngqithi finalize the details of the contract extension, fans and observers alike can look forward to more strategic brilliance and continued success with head coach Rulani Mokwena at the helm. The official announcement of the new deal is eagerly awaited, marking the beginning of another promising chapter for Sundowns.

Soccer Laduma contacted Sundowns for comment but the club had not responded by the time this story was published.
