Mamelodi Sundowns could look to use striker Etiosa Ighodaro in a potential swap deal – plus cash – to acquire the services of defender.
Kegan Johannes from SuperSport United, the Siya crew has been informed. Downs, along with their Big Three rivals in Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs, have expressed an interest in the utility player and youth international.
It's understood the Brazilians are currently favourites to land the signature of the 23-year-old given their financial muscle as well as the fact that they currently have two players out on loan at SuperSport they can use as leverage.
At the start of the campaign, the two Tshwane outfits agreed to forward Ighodaro joining Matsatsantsa after a good spell at Chippa United, where he finished as the club's top goal scorer to help them avoid relegation.
Ighodaro is now expected to return to Chloorkop, so too is goalkeeper Ricardo Goss – and this is where Sundowns could have the negotiation power to get the deal over the line.
SuperSport coach Gavin Hunt told the media last weekend that he was not sure yet whether the Nigerian striker would join them permanently, arguing that he had struggled to adjust due to injuries even though he believed Ighodaro had a lot to offer.
He signed for Sundowns in July 2021, but is still yet to make an official appearance for the club with loan spells to University of Pretoria, Chippa United and SuperSport. Johannes remains contracted to Matsatsantsa for two more years with his option now triggered, but SuperSport are desperate to sell to balance their books!
