Promising South African talent Lebo Mathibedi is expected to extend his stay in Italy, where he has excelled over the last season. Mathibedi made his way to Italy through the Socca Dream, an initiative which aims to give aspiring footballers an opportunity to showcase their talent in Europe, particularly in Italy, where the company has strong links, owing to its founder Aris Albetti, who played professional football in Serie A before injury brought his career to an abrupt halt.
Albetti, has managed to open doors for a number of youngsters abroad though, with Mathibedi being the latest. He has made his way to a club named ASD Cadimare Calcio, who compete in the Italian amateur ranks.
Now, the latest news reaching Soccer Laduma is that the player has impressed in the 2022/23 season, so much so that the club are looking to hold onto his services for a further year, with a number of sides understood to be monitoring his progress.
A source close to the dealings revealed that Mathibedi has been tipped for success abroad. "Lebo has shown that he can adapt to change, and the coaching staff really like him. But the club are aware that other clubs will soon come knocking (in order) for him to carve out a successful career for himself in Europe," said the source.
