Orlando Pirates striker, Kermit Erasmus, remains in limbo with just two months left on his contract, the Siya crew has been told.
Indications are that the Buccaneers had initially engaged the former Mamelodi Sundowns and SuperSport United forward on potentially offering him a new deal as reported by Soccer Laduma last year – but it's believed there has been no progress since.
The minutes on the pitch have also significantly dried up for Erasmus with no appearances so far since the beginning of 2024. Pirates reunited with the 33-year-old following his exit from Sundowns and coach Jose Riveiro immediately took a liking to Erasmus because of his work ethic, speed and overall contribution.
However, at the start of the current campaign the return of Zakhele Lepasa, who was enjoying a hot streak and regularly scoring for Pirates, limited Erasmus' game time, although he was still part of the squad.
With Evidence Makgopa being the focal point towards the end of the first half of the campaign and Tshegofatso Mabasa returning from his loan spell at Moroka Swallows this has been a setback for Erasmus.
There have been some murmurs that this could be the end of the road, but it will all be official in the coming months when the 2023/24 term officially wraps up at the end of May with the Nedbank Cup final.
Erasmus is also free to put pen to paper on a pre-contract with any club of his choice.
