Fagrie Lakay is believed to be on Mamelodi Sundowns' wanted list as the club's injury crisis sees them dip into the transfer market. The bulky forward is currently in a pre-season camp in Turkey with Pyramids FC, having played a starring role last season, helping the side to an impressive second place finish in the Egyptian Premier League.
He was signed by the club from Cape Town City in January 2022 and, in his first full season with them, managed to establish himself as a mainstay for coach Jaime Pacheco's outfit. Lakay's numbers were impressive as he managed 12 goals and four assists in 41 matches across all competitions.
Insiders have now informed the Siya crew that Sundowns are on the hunt for a proven South African goal scorer, with three players - in Percy Tau, Khanyisa Mayo and now Lakay – being considered. Given how pivotal all three stars are for their respective clubs, the Tshwane giants, as they usually do, would have to fork out if they are to land any of them, although this publication reported that the chances of a possible return to Chloorkop for Tau are relatively slim.
Soccer Laduma understands that Downs have turned their focus to Mayo and Lakay, who could be roped in to plug the gap left by the club's injured contingent. According to information at the crew's disposal, Lakay has a contract with Pyramids until June 2024.
Furthermore, his club are understood to be keen on holding onto the striker for the upcoming season.
