Pirates Turn Down Middle-East Interest To Secure Experience

Pirates Turn Down Middle-East Interest To Secure Experience

Following a series of impressive performances this season, Orlando Pirates' versatile player is expected to secure another one-year extension, with an additional one-year option on his contract.

Insiders close to the club have indicated that the club exercised an option at the start of the current season for Deon Hotto, which had extended his contract until June 2025. The new deal will further extend his stay until at least June 2027.

"It's like the team philosophy or strategy that most of the players over 30 years are normally given one year extensions and it's the same with Hotto. Now they have offered him another one-year extension plus a one-year option. You know last season his initial four-year contract had expired? But the club exercised their one-year option. So, now because they don't have another option that's why they are offering him a new one-year plus another one-year option. That's the situation right now," the Siya source stated.

A second insider mentioned that there had been inquiries for the 34-year-old Namibian from teams in South Africa and clubs in the Middle East.

"Yes, there was interest from teams in the PSL and other teams in the Middle East but the club turned down all those interests and inquiries. But since the club still needs him at the team that's why they are extending his contract to another one-year as well as a one-year option," the second insider stated.

Hotto, who joined Pirates in 2020 from the now-defunct BidVest Wits, has been a consistent presence for the Buccaneers, featuring consistently in league games this season. Last season, he had played nearly all the league games too, so Hotto has proven he deserves an extension, even at the age of 34, due to his proven consistency.
