Reports surfaced earlier in November that Scottish Premier League giants Celtic were tracking Cape Town Spurs teenage attacker Luke Baartman as a potential transfer target in the near future. The Siya crew subsequently reported that the Urban Warriors, in turn, tied the 17-year-old down to a new long-term contract, to deflect interest in his services, for now.
Now, the latest reaching this publication is that Celtic are yet to formally approach the player's camp to discuss a possible move or even assess whether 'Boere', as he is affectionately known, would be keen on making the switch to the Scottish Premier League.
Despite Baartman being in his maiden top-flight season, it's expected that only a sizable transfer fee would trigger his exit from Ikamva, though it is thought that Spurs want the player to gain as much experience in the elite division as possible before entertaining talk of a transfer. According to reports from abroad, Celtic aren't the only team in Europe eyeing Baartman as it's believed English Championship side Leeds United also have the player on their radar.
Indications are that the likelihood of either team getting a deal over the line when the January transfer window opens are slim. Baartman has made five first-team appearances for Spurs this season and recently got his first start under new coach Ernst Middendorp in a 2-1 loss to Royal AM.
